Tom Armstrong and Chris Adam – Invasion! Illustration and Sound Art Workshops, for 14+ years

Join illustrator Tom Armstrong and sound artist Chris Adam for a number of workshops based on HG Wells’ The War Of The Worlds. Given that this iconic work of science fiction depicts a catastrophic conflict between humans and extraterrestrial Martians, we have no doubt that these workshops, which are part of the BBC’s ‘Novels That Shaped Our World Project’, will be out of this world. Arrival Lounge – Storytelling performance about immigration by performance group Peeling Onions with Granny.

Having collaborated with the artist collective Peeling Onions With Granny on The Nuclear Option in Kelvedon Hatch Secret Nuclear Bunker (2018), Essex Book Festival is thrilled to have them back to perform Arrival Lounge at Harlow Playhouse, a performance devised at Tate Exchange, Tate Modern.

Arriving somewhere new can be daunting. It can also be exhilarating. Members of Peeling Onions With Granny have been reflecting on their own stories of journeying and arrival: stories that incorporate themes of migration, forced displacement and wartime evacuation. Following the performance, audience members will be able to join in to share their own stories of journeying and arrival. Spread the word.
