Writing Landscapes Workshop

Authors Samuel Fisher (Wivenhoe, 2022) & Justin Hopper (The Old Weird Albion, 2017) are hosting a writing workshop at Wivenhoe Library where participants will be invited to think of the places they cherish and find ways to translate those landscapes into words.

About the author – Samuel Fisher

Samuel Fisher is a writer, bookseller and publisher. His first novel, The Chameleon, won a Betty Trask Award. His second novel, Wivenhoe, has been shortlisted for the New Angle Prize, and will be adapted into a play in association with the Mercury Theatre. He is the co-founder of Burley Fisher Books and a director of Peninsula Press.

About the author – Justin Hopper

Justin Hopper is an American writer based in the UK. His writing explores the intersection of landscape, memory and myth. Recent work includes books (The Old Weird Albion, Obsolete Spells) and recordings (Chanctonbury Rings, Swift Wings) as well as site-specific poetry (the Public Record series) and a podcast (Uncanny Landscapes), and many non-fiction articles and essays.

He has taught landscape-writing and psychogeography courses and workshops at institutions including Tate, Tate Modern, Norwich Writers Centre, University of Pittsburgh, Interlochen Center for the Arts and many more.

For 10 years he curated exhibitions of contemporary landscape art for Wood Street Galleries in the USA, bringing many prominent British artists to America for the first time.

Forthcoming projects include a new album for Ghost Box Records and a new performance-lecture piece that will debut in Autumn.
