WHAT IS THE MANIFESTO FOR ESSEX?

Essex Book Festival set up the Manifesto for Essex in 2020 as a cultural platform for young people living in Essex to express their thoughts, fears and ideas about Climate Change.

Key activities have included working with zine artist Lu Williams to create our Manifesto for Essex zine, which led to Chelmsford City Council declaring its Climate Emergency; designing/printing protest posters at Colchester Makerspace; an exhibition of Earth Poems across Chelmsford City Centre; a series of eco-casts made by young presenters at Chelmsford Community Radio; The Book Project Photography Exhibition at Gibberd Gallery in Harlow led by students at Harlow College.

The list goes on. The work continues.

AND THE SUMMIT

Essex Book Festival is in the process of creating a MANIFESTO FOR ESSEX YOUTH PANEL to help shape its festival programme for June 2023 and beyond. This is YOUR chance to get involved, to share your ideas, and make a difference.

Join in the debate via our How Can We Make Ourselves Heard? Panel Discussion. Take part in one of our parallel workshops exploring key environmental issues, such as, Communicating the Climate Emergency; Food, Biodiversity & Rewilding; Rising Waters and Flooding, with leading experts, writers and artists. Hear from environmental artists working in Essex who are already making a difference.

Don’t miss your chance to mix with inspiring artists, writers and environmentalists including Artist/Curator Bridget McKenzie from #ClimateMuseum #CultureDeclaresEmergency; Author Sophie Pavelle #forgetmenot; Capaigner/Activist Hattie Phillips; Digital Artist Lily Hunter Green #silencingthevirus; Artist/Writer Lora Aziz; Artist Lu Williams; Performer/Aristic Director Marina Cusi Sanchez; Regenerative Farmer John Pawsey; Marine Scientist and author Hannah Rudd.
